The Corporate world as we all know  is a place where people are over worked and under paid with little or no place for personal life. It’s a pressure cooker for the mind & soul! The only product which every company produces, irrespective of what its Article of Association or Company charter states – is STRESS!

This trend needs to be arrested and already many are whispering solutions to this endemic  problem.  Stress brings into play various emotions, and the worst of them is Ego. The false idea that ones contribution in aggrandizement  of untold wealth for the Company  absolves him/her from the moral path of Sustainable Business practice, especially in the context of saving the Environment from Human induced Climate Change.

‘Production targets’;  ‘achievement of goal’ for promotion of self up the ladder of corporate hierarchy by making a ‘killing’; in the marketing and having a ‘fat bottom-line’ in the…

An animal rights group asked a Baton Rouge judge Thursday to order the state to put a stop to an Iberville Parish truck stop’s “unlawful possession’’ of a 550-pound Siberian-Bengal tiger.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund, which sued the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in April 2011, filed another suit Thursday against LDWF and noted that the judge in the first suit barred the state agency last year from issuing any new permits to Tiger Truck Stop to keep 11-year-old Tony there.

The truck stop’s state permit for Tony expired Dec. 31.

Tiger Truck Stop owner Michael Sandlin, however, has appealed state District Judge Mike Caldwell’s ruling in the first suit to the state 1st Circuit Court of Appeal. Caldwell’s judgment is not final until the appeals process runs its course.

If Sandlin’s appeal is ultimately denied, LDWF has…

Baton Rouge, La. – This morning, the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) filed a lawsuit to force the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to do its job of enforcing Louisiana’s big cat ban in the case of Tony, Grosse Tete’s “truck stop tiger.” Michael Sandlin’s permit to keep Tony, an eleven-year-old Siberian-Bengal tiger, expired in December, yet he has continued to keep Tony confined at the Tiger Truck Stop, in open violation of state law. ALDF’s lawsuit would compel the Department to take steps to enforce the law and report Sandlin’s illegal possession of Tony to…

The high carbon economy which is causing Global Warming and Climate change, is cause for concern World over. To combat such unprecedented situation, discussing new clean technology alone would not suffice. If one needs Peoples participation, it has to go deep into the ethos and psyche of the people and devise methods to reconnect bonds which human had once with nature.

India is a predominantly Hindu nation and Hinduism is pagan in Nature. The culture of India is based on the Vedas, Upanishads and the Purans .

The Vedas  traditional date goes back to 3000 BC, something which the German scholar Max Mueller accepted. As a body of writing, the Rig-Veda (the wisdom of verses) is nothing short of remarkable. It contains 1028 hymns (10,589 verses which are divided into ten mandalas or book-sections) dedicated to thirty-three different gods. The most often addressed gods were nature gods like Indra (rain…

Every new idea faces some challenges. Those which can rise up to them quickly and even before they become problems are the ones which have a future. Many articles speak of some opposition to Solar Power plants. Some don’t want it to cover large expanse of land, while others find that it changes the scenery around their habitat, thus an eye-sore. Wind power too has faced similar problems.

India  has through its National Action Plan for Climate Change, brought about 8 missions of which 3  look at the direction of energy efficiency with scope for renewable. As the power plant through Solar, which is comparatively new in implementation, in India matures, so would the problems. And the problems it would face would be unique to it.

English: Solar One power plant in Mojave Deser...

Large solar-plant in India, would not face much problems as long  as they are  installed in low density, arid to semi arid…

Trees Curiousity

Have you ever wondered which is the tallest tree, where is it, what kind of tree is it?

Or, have you ever wondered which one is the oldest?

well, here are the answers to your green curiousity!

(Wikipedia source)

Tallest Trees:

Researchers have been complaining about the tallest trees. Some say the tallest trees were around 130 m (430 ft), and even 150 m (490 ft) high. As there isn’t a record of them we consider the tallest trees the ones we can measure nowadays:

  1. Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens): 115.56 m(379.1 ft), Hyperion, Redwood National Park, California, United States
  2. Australian Mountain-ash (Eucalyptus regnans): 99.6 m (327 ft), south of Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
  3. Coast Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii): 99.4 m (326 ft), Brummit Creek, Coos County, Oregon, United States
  4. Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis): 96.7 m (317 ft), Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, California, United States
  5. Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum): 94.9 m (311 ft), Redwood Mountain Grove, Kings Canyon National Park, California, United States
  6. Tasmanian Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus): 90.7 m (298 ft), Tasmania, Australia
  7. Manna Gum (Eucalyptus viminalis): 89 m (292 ft), Evercreech Forest Reserve, Tasmania, Australia
  8. Shorea faguetiana88.3 m (290 ft)Tawau Hills National Park, in Sabah on the island of Borneo
  9. Alpine Ash (Eucalyptus delegatensis): 87.9 m (288 ft), Tasmania, Australia

Largest Trees

The largest trees in total volume are both tall and large in diameter and, in particular, hold a large diameter high up the trunk. Measurement is very complex, particularly if branch volume is to be included as well as the trunk volume, so measurements have only been made for a small number of trees, and generally only for the trunk. No attempt has ever been made to include root volume. Measuring standards vary.

The top ten species measured so far are:

  1. Giant Sequoia Sequoiadendron giganteum1,487 m³ (52,508 cu ft), General Sherman
  2. Coast RedwoodSequoia sempervirens1,203 m³ (42,500 cu ft), Lost Monarch
  3. Montezuma CypressTaxodium mucronatum750 m³ (25,000 cu ft), Árbol del Tule
  4. KauriAgathis australis (Tāne Mahuta): 516 m³
  5. Western Redcedar Thuja plicata500 m³ (17,650 cu ft ), Quinault Lake Redcedar
  6. Tasmanian Blue GumEucalyptus globulus368 m³ (13,000 cu ft), Rullah Longatyle (Strong Girl, also Grieving Giant)
  7. Australian Mountain-ashEucalyptus regnans360 m³ (12,714 cu ft), Arve Big Tree
  8. Coast Douglas-fir Pseudotsuga menziesii349 m³ (12,320 cu ft) Red Creek Tree
  9. Sitka SprucePicea sitchensis337 m³ (11,920 cu ft) Queets Spruce[citation needed]
  10. Australian OakEucalyptus obliqua337 m³ (11,920 cu ft) Gothmog
  11. Alpine AshEucalyptus delegatensis286 m³ (10,100 cu ft), located in Styx River Valley

Oldest Trees

The oldest trees are determined by growth rings, which can be seen if the tree is cut down, or in cores taken from the bark to the center of the tree.

The verified oldest measured ages are:

  1. Great Basin Bristlecone Pine (Methuselah) Pinus longaeva: 4,844 years
  2. AlerceFitzroya cupressoides: 3,622 years[
  3. Giant Sequoia Sequoiadendron giganteum: 3,266 years
  4. SugiCryptomeria japonica: 3,000 years
  5. Huon-pineLagarostrobos franklinii: 2,500 years

This is just another post to make you remember that even nature grows old, and it needs and deserves our respect. We need to take care of it. Of every plant, grass, flower and tree. It lives with us every day. it gives us life. It let us grow old. Take care of trees and preserve nature! Go green!

I have been seeing a lot of “Lorax approved” products and ads lately. I find myself scratching my head and wondering, if Mr Lorax were real, would he really approve these products he is advocating? Methinks not so much.

There are approximately 70 sponsors of the film. While I do feel some do have the environment at heart, I think some are just “jumping on the environmental bandwagon” to promote their products.

I seriously doubt that Mr Lorax would approve and/or advertise a gas combustion engine SUV. Don’t you think the Nissan Leaf would be more aptly accepted by Mr Lorax?

Whole Foods market has already been accused of selling “not so whole” foods imported from China.

Disposable diapers?!? Mr Lorax would definitely not approve of those.

Not all the sponsors are questionable, but please look into them and see if you can justify putting $ in their pocket by…
